What is World Lake Database?

1. Contents

We currently have data for more than 500 lakes from 73 countries in World Lake Database. These data mainly consists of result of a data collection project entitled "Survey of the State of World Lakes" in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The main data categories in the project are as follows:

You can see a report of the project for each lakes through a link in this database.

2. Data Utilization

You can refer and use any data in World Lake Database, but there is a possiblity that the data contain unexpected error. Please understand that ILEC is not liable for any damages suffered from data utilization in the database.

3. Update Request

ILEC would greatly appreciate your collaboration for the revision of the data by providing additional and/or latest information of the lakes covered by this database, including additional pictures of the lakes. Information on the lakes that are not covered would also be greatly appreciated. The names of those who have provided assistance for the update will be duly acknowledged in the anticipated revised editions. Regretfully, due to financial constraints, no honorarium will be paid.
