Description

Lake Retba lies north-east of Dakar, the capital of Senegal. It was formed by the closing of a lagoon and is famous for its pink waters caused by Dunaliella salina algae. The lake is also known for its high salt content which is caused by ingress of seawater and high evaporation rate. The small-scale salt-collecting industry exists on its shore.
