Lake Tana lies in the north-western Ethiopian Plateau and is the largest lake in Ethiopia. After issueing from the south end of Lake Tana, the Blue Nile flows south at first, then west across Ehiopia and northwest into Sudan, and finally it merges with the White Nile at Khartoum.
